DANBURY, Conn. — Ethan Allen said it is expanding its upholstery operations in Maiden, N.C. by converting a 173,000-square-foot facility that had been a distribution center into a factory.
The company said the newest plant will support two existing upholstery factories in Maiden and house a new research and development center.
“We are pleased to continue the development of our North American manufacturing by establishing our third upholstery plant in Maiden, which we believe gives us a long-term competitive advantage that will allow us to advance our objectives of maintaining short order-processing times and improving capacity to ship custom items more quickly,” said Farooq Kathwari, chairman and CEO.
Ethan Allen operates six factories and one sawmill in the United States, and one plant each in Mexico and Honduras. About 70% of its products are made in North America.
The company also has about 300 retail stores in the United States and abroad.
